So you have booked your wedding venue... What next?! Food of course!
Choosing a wedding caterer is an important task as for most weddings it will be the focal point of the day. Here are our top tips for selecting your wedding caterer and the important questions to ask when approaching them...
CHECKING THE AVAILABILITY
Once your venue is booked it is important to book your caterer soon after. We recommend booking your caterer at least 9 months before your wedding date.
Most venues have a list of preferred suppliers so it’s always advised to talk to them about who they would recommend and get some sample menus if possible.
BUDGET, BUDGET, BUDGET
We highly recommend sitting down with your partner and deciding on a budget for your wedding catering so you have an idea of what you have to spend when going to your caterer. Most caterers will have several price packages for couples to choose from. If you are on a limited budget tell your caterer.
We have many sample menus that we have created for past, current and future clients – each tailored to individual budgets and tastes. It is important to discuss with your venue first about what is included in their fee for the venue. Asking if they include crockery, glassware, tables, chairs and linen are the key things to enquire about. If these things are not included, and you will require your caterer to supply them, the fee can be way above what you anticipated so be sure to factor this in!
When you get a quote from a wedding caterer be sure to ask if it is including or excluding Vat – in some cases this can be an unexpected cost couples have not considered – We are always conscious to make our clients aware of the Vat from the very first quote.
Always check out a Caterers website or social media page to check the quality of their work. If you cannot get any images this way ask them to send you a portfolio of their work. Seasonal produce always plays a big part too and we will always creating menus with this in mind.
We cannot recommend doing a tasting enough! It is really important to do a tasting to ensure you are happy with your menu and make any tweaks to dishes if required. It will also give you the opportunity to see the quality and presentation of your caterers work. Some couples have told us in the past post their wedding that they were delighted to have the tasting because on the day they were so busy mingling they didn’t get to enjoy the full meal (although we are not sure if anything could tear us aware from our dinner;)
